If you live along 16th Street NW—I do—you know how crowded the S buses can get during the morning rush. You also know that the further south along 16th Street you live, that harder it is to find a bus that isn’t already packed with commuters. Starting next week, though, things might get a little better.
Responding to demands from ANC commissioners and commuters alike, Metro announced on Tuesday that it would soon add capacity to a southern portion of the S-Line, which runs from Silver Spring to downtown D.C. Starting next Monday, additional S buses will start service at Harvard Street NW, making all the usual S2 stops until they hit H Street.
All told, the new buses will offer nine new trips between 7:30 and 9:15 a.m. The line will simply be called “S2 Short” and make space for an additional 400 to 500 commuters each morning.
