The Metropolitan Police Department is looking for a suspect who earlier today hopped in the driver’s seat of an idled police car and proceeded to drive off, only to crash after traveling a block. (H/T Titan of Trinidad.)

Police were notified about 12:30 that one of their vehicles had been stolen from the 1600 block of Fort Davis Street SE, Officer Tisha Gant, an MPD spokeswoman says. The heist did not last long, as the thief only made it around the corner to the 3900 block of R Street, where the cruiser was crashed. The suspect then made off on foot, police say.

The car was part of MPD’s Sixth District, which encompasses parts of Southeast and Northeast D.C. east of the Anacostia River. Authorities do not have a description of the suspect.
