If you want to check on whether your neighborhood is a hotbed of robberies or a target for car thieves, it’s once again easy to do so.
After being down for months at a time last year, the Metropolitan Police Department has quietly relaunched its Crime Map, which allows anyone to search for crime over the past 30 days to a year by street address, ward, Police Service Area, ANC, or other geographic locators.
The crime map fell victim to a broader change in how the department categorizes and reports crime; last December, a glitch in the new system made it impossible for police officials to produce daily crime reports.
