Officials at the Delaware beach town of Dewey Beach are moving towards banning smoking on beaches and in municipal parks, reports DelMarvaNow:

At the monthly Town Council meeting, Dewey officials agreed to move forward with the drafting of an ordinance to ban smoking on beaches and parks within the town.

During last month’s council meeting, ideas were discussed regarding whether designated smoking areas should be included in the ordinance. At Saturday’s meeting, officials decided to move forward with drafting an amendment to Chapter 65 of the Municipal Code to prohibit all smoking.

If you’re a smoker or libertarian and so offended by the move that you might consider vacationing elsewhere, you might be out of luck: smoking is already limited in state parks, and Bethany Beach and Rehoboth Beach have also instituted bans of their own. Ocean City officials have also discussed the possibility of imposing a smoking ban.
