After cold, rain, snow, and more cold, that long-awaited day has finally arrived. It’s Free Cone Day!
Oh, wait. We already did that?
OK, OK. Here’s some good news, and it won’t even add any empty calories. The Yoshino cherry trees that line the National Mall and Tidal Basin are in peak bloom, the National Park Service said today.
This year’s peak bloom of the cherry blossoms comes only more than wo weeks after the initial forecast of March 26, but it couldn’t have arrived on a more picturesque day. It’s sunny, temperatures are in the mid-80s, and it’s not too humid. Perfect tourist weather, basically.
Oh, and if you do feel the urge to converge on the cherry blossoms with the visitors, do it today. Tomorrow’s forecasted high is a somewhat unpleasant 90 degrees, with a potential for rain or thunderstorms.
