A Florida man was arrested Sunday and charged yesterday with having unregistered guns and ammunition to the U.S. Capitol. Ty Carroll Mitchum, a 59-year-old Clearwater resident, was arraigned in D.C. Superior Court and ordered to be given psychological testing.
The Associated Press reports that Mitchum was arrested after U.S. Capitol Police officers noticed him behaving erratically and found three firearms in his possession:
U.S. Capitol Police spokesman Shennell Antrobus says officers confronted the 59-year-old Mitchum because they thought he was acting suspiciously.
Antrobus says Mitchum told police that he had guns in his car and allowed officers to search his vehicle. Police say they found three unregistered firearms, which are illegal in the District of Columbia, and ammunition. The weapons included a shotgun, a pistol and a revolver.
Just another day in the adventures of Florida man, perhaps the world’s best and worst superhero. In August 2011, a Florida man was arrested in Cabin John, Md. on charges that he planned to set off a large stockpile of fireworks on the National Mall as a protest of the nation’s banking practices.
