Meet the Press host David Gregory reportedly went bonkers earlier this week when he crashed the media preview of a show house around the corner from his home in the Palisades. Gregory, The Reliable Source reports, was quite upset with all the traffic attracted by the D.C. Design House, an annual charity event in which a high-end home is made over by a group of local designers.
The house, tours of which cost $25, is a fundraiser for the Childrenʼs National Medical Center. But the preview for this year’s Design House, at 2507 Foxhall Road NW, was apparently so popular, some attendees had to park on other streets, including Gregory’s. And the NBC News host did not take kindly to seeing a bunch of cars parked outside his house. Per the Reliable Source:
“You could hear all this with the doors closed,” said designer David Mitchell. “This was a very public and immature display. It’s a public street. You don’t get to live in a neighborhood and say who gets to park.”
Gregory said he wouldn’t describe the confrontation as “blowing up.” But, he acknowledged, “I did go over there to complain.” He said that he received no warning about the monthlong charity event (except for a large sign on the empty residence) and that he has contacted his local ANC commissioner. “I’m not happy about it and I hope it gets resolved.”
Advisory Neighborhood Commission 3D discussed the presence of the Design House at its meeting last week, and moved to restrict Design House parking to one side of the street during the month-long duration of the show. The event’s organizers are also offering the house’s neighbors free admission.
But if Gregory is really that cheesed about a crowd-driving event in his neighborhood, perhaps yelling at its organizers and hassling his ANC commissioner aren’t the best options. There’s always DC Watch, and we’d love to see Gregory’s next tantrum in themail.
