A good way to figure out exactly where a particular candidate stands is by figuring out where they get their money from. And while that’s easy enough in D.C., campaign finance reports made available by the Office of Campaign Finance can be mind-numbing to sort through and don’t really allow for much side-by-side comparison.

The Sunlight Foundation has come to save the day. Today the open government organization added data from the Office of Campaign Finance to its Influence Explorer tool, allowing just about anyone to find out exactly where the candidates for the April 23 At-Large Special Election are getting their money.

Some of the interesting outtakes: over $500,000 in contributions have come from 27 states and D.C., Interim Councilmember Anita Bonds (D-At Large) leads in corporate contributions with 24, pro-pot candidate Paul Zukerberg has gotten a quarter of his own bank roll from himself, Elissa Silverman is the only candidate to have gotten all of her money from individuals (not including herself), and Matthew Frumin leads in contributions from outside D.C. The City Paper has the geographic breakdowns for each candidate.
