The last two decades have not been kind to the good old-fashioned American record store as music fans have traded the romance of a vast LP collection for an iPod that they can take on the go. However, the nostalgia for this music tradition has led to a push to keep the District’s remaining record shops open and LP fanatics’ collections growing. Graphic designer (and former Crooked Beat employee) Holly Tegeler Collier, first created The D.C. Record Store Map in 2011 in an effort to highlight the five remaining record shops in Northwest D.C. Conveniently, the map has been updated just in time for Record Store Day.
