A driver employed by a company that runs the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s MetroAccess van service was arrested last week and charged with sexually assaulting a passenger.

Ezra Porter, who works for MV Transportation, was arrested on one count of first-degree sexual assault after he allegedly stopped a van he was driving and engaged in inappropriate contact with a passenger he was driving home. MetroAccess is a service offered by the transit agency to ferry physically disabled people who are unable to board bus or rail lines.

Porter was arrested last Friday after the victim’s family notified Metro Transit Police of the alleged assault. His company has been a contractor for MetroAccess service since 2009, but its current contract to offer rides to disabled customers expires on June 30. The contract for ferrying customers will be split between three different companies starting July 1, though MV Transportation will remain on as the operator for the MetroAccess call center, a contract valued at $14.61 million.
