>> Drummer Allison Miller grew up in the D.C. area, but is now a first-call musician for jazz and popular artists in New York. Her group, Boom Tic Boom, will be at the Mansion at Strathmore on Friday to celebrate the release of its new album, No Morphine No Lilies. 7:30 p.m. Tickets $22.50-$25.

>> There aren’t many musicians who’ve made such a huge wave at such a young age as 25-year old guitarist, Julian Lage. On Friday, he will be at the Kennedy Center, teaming up with world class pianist Fred Hersch. 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. sets. Tickets $26-$30.

>> A newly opened studio/venue at 411 New York Ave. NE, dubbed Union Arts & Manufacturing, will host Nonstop Improv on Sunday. The performance, staged by CapitalBop in conjunction with Sonic Circuits and the Undead Music Festival, brings together musicians from all strains of the District’s experimental music community for an evening of free form improvisation. Jazzers include Brad Linde, Amy K. Bormet, Brian Settles and Reginald Cyntje. 4 p.m. $10 suggested donation.
