U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials working international arrivals at Dulles International Airport turn up the oddest things. Most recently: a trunk full of 20 raw black chickens.

Officers found the cooler full of poultry with a man arriving from Vietnam on April 22. WUSA reports:

According to officials, agriculture specialists found two bags containing a total of 20 small raw chickens inside the cooler the man claimed as luggage. Officials say the chickens were fully intact, but de-feathered, with dark-bluish-grey to blackened skin and feet. Officers took the Chinese Silkies, which are black chickens, and incinerated them.

Customs officials say the birds hail from a part of Asia where several deadly avian diseases, including influenza and Exotic Newcastle disease, are common.

But, in the annals of things turning up at the customs line in Dulles, 20 uncooked chickens is somewhat rare compared to other finds like heroin contained in a woman’s stomach and cocaine hidden in jars of stew.
