>> Big band leader Doc Scantlin leads his group tonight at the Bethesda Blues & Jazz Supper Club. The fifteen piece band will play a set that will feature popular songs from the roaring ’20s, coinciding with the new film adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby. 8 p.m. Tickets $20 plus $15 food/drink minimum.

>> Sotê, a locally based guitarist who hails from Brazil, will perform 8 and 10 p.m. sets tonight at Twins Jazz. Tickets $10 plus $10 food/drink minimum.

>> The CD Cellar hosts an evening of cutting edge music on Thursday with an excellent bill. The lineup includes saxophonist Jonah Parzen-Johnson, woodwind artist Steve Lugerner, plus hometown duo Janel & Anthony. 8 p.m. $7 suggested donation.

>> Brooklyn-based pianist Seán McCluskey brings his quartet to Twins Jazz on Thursday. 8 and 10 p.m. sets. Tickets $10 + $10 food/drink minimum.

>> Area vocalist Tarea Anderson performs 8 and 10 p.m. sets on Thursday at Bohemian Caverns. Tickets $15.

>> Two jazz heavyweights, guitarist Jim Hall and saxophonist Joe Lovano, team up for a four night stand at Blues Alley that begins on Thursday. Hall, in his 80s, has a list of collaborators that reads like a “Who’s Who” of jazz. Lovano has one of the sweetest tenor sounds on the planet. They bring with with them a world class rhythm section comprised of bassist George Mraz and drummer Lewis Nash. 8 and 10 p.m. sets. Tickets $42.50 plus $12.50 minimum/surcharge.

>> Pepe Gonzalez has long been a first call bassist in the area and is also a respected educator. He will lead a group on Friday at Jazz Night in Southwest that includes vocalist, Imani. 6 to 9 p.m. Tickets $5.

>> Banjo master Bela Fleck teams up with pianist Marcus Roberts’ trio on Friday at Strathmore. Roberts earned his reputation playing with Wynton Marsalis in the ’80s, and the youngest Marsalis sibling, Jason, will be playing drums on Friday. 8 p.m. Tickets $25-$58.

>> Saxophonist J.D. Allen has a huge sound, but he doesn’t use it to the point where it overpowers those sharing the bandstand. The internationally acclaimed artist will be performing 8:30 and 10:30 sets on Friday and Saturday at Bohemian Caverns. Tickets $20 online/$25 at the door.

>> The MARS 4-tet is comprised of some of the best musicians from the Annapolis area, and the group specializes in the post-bop and fusion stylings of Keith Jarrett, Pat Metheny and Michael Brecker. The band will be at Twins Jazz on Friday and Saturday for 8 and 10 p.m. sets. Tickets $15 plus $10 food/drink minimum.

>> The Bethesda Blues & Jazz Supper Club presents a weekend of blues with The Nighthawks (Friday) and Jimmy Thackery & The Drivers (Saturday). Sets start at 8 p.m. on both nights. Tickets $20 plus $15 food/drink minimum.

>> Powerhouse pianist ELEW returns to HR-57 on Friday and Saturday. 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Tickets $25.

>> Luciana Souza is a singer’s singer who bridges jazz with all types of international influences. She will be performing at the Atlas on Saturday in a duo setting with guitarist Romero Lubambo. Tickets $15 to $30.

>> CapitalBop returns to Chez Billy on Sunday for its monthly D.C. Jazz Loft. May’s lineup features saxophonists Elijah Balbed and Antonio Parker, along with trumpeter Griff Kaz. 7 p.m. $15 suggested donation.

>> Blue Monday Blues hosts pianist Vince Evans and his band. 6 to 9 p.m. Tickets $5.

>> Those who know nothing about Bobby McFerrin‘s music beyond the kitschy “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” are missing out on the talent of a true musical genius. His prodigious talent combined with his effervescent spirit makes one of his performances a truly uplifting experience. Unlike his usual solo performances, on Monday, McFerrin will be with a band at the Kennedy Center to present spirityouall, a program that revisits the American spiritual. 7 p.m. Tickets $20-$65.

>> Trumpeter Donvonte McCoy continues his Tuesday night run as May’s Artist-in-Residence at Bohemian Caverns. 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. sets. Tickets $10 online/$15 at the door.

>> The Glenn Miller Orchestra recorded some of the most popular tunes of the big band era, including “In The Mood”, “Moonlight Serenade” and “Chattanooga Choo Choo”. Listeners who want to pay a visit to that bygone age may see the current iteration of the band on Tuesday at Blues Alley. Tickets $50 plus $12.50 minimum/surcharge.

>> The Hot Club of DC once again brings its gypsy jazz sound to Twins Jazz on Tuesday. 8 and 10 p.m. sets. Tickets $10 plus $10 food/drink minimum.

>> Mickey Hart is best known for his decades spent with The Grateful Dead, but in recent years he has forged a more international sound. In 2007, he formed the Global Drum Project, and in 2012 he released Mysterium Tremendum with The Mickey Hart Band. The group will be at The Howard Theatre on Tuesday for an 8 p.m. show. Tickets $27 in advance/$32 day of show.
