A fight over a blocked gas pump has led two D.C. cab drivers to have the privilege of transporting people around town revoked.

Drivers Sharanjit Singh and Ephream Esheterom were suspended indefinitely by the D.C. Taxicab Commission after they were arrested and charged for allegedly assaulting someone at a gas station last Friday.

From a press release:

The incident occurred around 9:00 pm and escalated from a verbal altercation to a physical confrontation that was witnessed by another individual. The disagreement began when Singh and Esheterom had their vehicles blocking a gas pump and refused to move. The victim used his cell phone to record the drivers which led to their pushing and shoving the victim and grabbing his cell phone. A police officer responded and the victim was treated by an ambulance summoned to the scene.

Commission Chairman Ron M. Linton called the drivers’ behavior “intolerable” in the release. Three other cab drivers have had their licenses suspended so far this year, including one who assaulted a passenger.

Update: Commission spokesman Neville Waters told the City Paper the incident, which took place at 22nd and M Streets NW, was caused because the drivers were chatting: ” “They were having a conversation and didn’t want to move.”
