Can you find love in a Metro hot car? Photo Courtesy WMATA/Photoshop by Sarah Hughes.Yesterday, Metro tweeted that some Metro cars without air conditioning had been closed to passengers due to the heat. Yes, it’s hot car season already.
The steamy railcars can certainly make rides miserable and clothes damp. But can the hot cars help you find a hot date?
A dating website called Metro HotCars popped up this week, asking visitors, “Are you ready to find a new ‘commute’ment? Seeking that special someone to share a SmartBenefits card with? Meet your new seatmate with Metro HotCars, the new service exclusively from WMATA.”
But unfortunately for warm, lonely Metro riders, when you go to log in, this message pops up: “Let’s be honest, I wouldn’t put it past them. In reality, this was all done as a joke/parody/what have you.”
Indeed, the cool design and clever content on the site, created by interactive designer Kyle Conrad, should be the first tip that it’s not a real WMATA property.
There’s also the snarky “features” listed at the bottom of the site, including the “LoveDelays™” system. “You might, sometimes, occasionally know just how long you have to wait before your match enters your life,” the site says.
While some Metro riders would likely be happy if WMATA created a dating service, more would probably appreciate getting the hot car problem fixed first.
Update: Metro spokesman Dan Stessel told DCist, “We recently became aware of the site, which is in no way associated with WMATA. We are reviewing our legal options and will take appropriate steps to protect our brand.”
