>> One hundred years (and one day) after composer Igor Stravinsky premiered his iconic orchestral piece, “The Rite of Spring”, bandleader/composer Darryl Brenzel assembles his Mobtown Modern Big Band to perform his “The Re-write of Spring”, which takes the original and adapts it to a jazz setting. The group will be at the Bethesda Blues & Jazz Supper Club on Thursday for an 8 p.m. set. Tickets $20 plus food and drink minimum.

>> Guitarist John Pizzarelli is considered a master of the Great American Songbook, but he also expands it with more contemporary material. On Thursday, Pizzarelli begins a four night stand of 8 and 10 p.m. sets at Blues Alley. Tickets $40 plus food and drink minimum or surcharge.

>> Jazz in the Garden, one of the city’s most well attended outdoor concert series, launched last Friday and this week’s edition features Chopteeth. 5 to 8:30 p.m. Free.

>> Saxophonist Jeff Antoniuk leads his quartet on Friday at Jazz Night in Southwest. The group will play a tribute to jazz legends Charles Mingus and Thelonious Monk. 6 to 9 p.m. Tickets $5.

>> Maceo Parker, who has played saxophone for the likes of James Brown, George Clinton and Prince, will be at The Birchmere on Friday, leading his own group. 7:30 p.m. Tickets $29.50.

>> Ken Navarro will showcase his brilliant guitar technique on Friday at the Bethesda Blues & Jazz Supper Club. His style involves playing melody, bass, harmony and rhythm all on one guitar, with no loops. 8 p.m. Tickets $25 plus food and drink minimum.

>> On Friday, the Washington Women in Jazz Festival and Union Arts DC present four ladies from D.C. and Seattle, who will collaborate in a special showcase of experimental improvisation. The Seattle-based Syrinx Effect will join saxophonist Sarah Hughes and pianist/WWJF founder Amy K. Bormet for a night of cutting edge music. The 8 p.m. show takes place at Union Arts and Manufacturing (411 New York Avenue NE). Tickets $10.

>> The DC Jazz Festival kicks off this Saturday with its annual Jazz n’ Families Fun Days, hosted at the Phillips Collection. The event, which continues on Sunday, features performances from a host of local talents as well as events designed to expose kids to jazz.

>> Christie Dashiell is one of the area’s top vocalists and made waves during Afro Blue‘s impressive run on NBC’s The Sing Off. Dashiell will lead her group on Sunday at Bohemian Caverns. 7 and 9 p.m. sets. Tickets $15 online, $20 at the door.

>> The Alexandria Kleztet are 15-time Wammy winners and bring their blend of jazz, Eastern European and Jewish sounds to the Bethesda Blues & Jazz Supper Club on Tuesday. 7:30 p.m. Tickets $20 plus food and drink minimum.

>> On Tuesday, veteran area saxophonist Marshall Keys begins a month long stint as June’s artist-in-residence at Bohemian Caverns. The performance will be paying tribute to Claude Nobs, the founder and executive producer of Montreux Jazz Festival.7:30 and 9:30 p.m. sets. $10 online, $15 at the door.
