There’s a happy ending to this week’s distressing story involving a very cute kitten. The eight-week-old cat apparently stolen from a Washington Humane Society adoption center has been recovered by police.
D.C. Police retrieved Callista from a residential address in D.C. last night and returned her to the WHS, according to a press release. MPD used video surveillance footage from the New York Avenue Adoption Center, where Callista disappeared from Sunday, in their investigation.
“Callista’s case is now a matter for the courts,” the release states.
“I couldn’t be more pleased with the Metropolitan Police Department. They took this case seriously for what it was, a theft and a criminal act,” WHS president and CEO Lisa LaFontaine said in a statement. “We can rest easy knowing that Callista will continue to get the care she needs as she awaits adoption into a responsible and loving home. And our community can rest assured that all animals in our care are precious members of our family, regardless of size, species, or age – and we will do everything possible to protect them.”
To no one’s surprise, WHS says many people have expressed interested in adopting Callista.
