Get ready to have your hearts warmed, kiddos.
World War II veteran Charles Herd made his first trip to that war’s memorial on the National Mall today, the 69th anniversary of D-Day, and live-tweeted each step of his journey.
Honor Flight, an organization that sends veterans to D.C. for free to visit the war memorials, provided the trip to Herd and nearly 30 other veterans from Kentucky. The trip was funded by the Ford Motor Company.
Before his trip, the 91-year-old told WDRB in Louisville he was “excited … to get to see the monument in Washington, which I haven’t seen. And of course, as we were saying earlier, to meet some other guys of my vintage.”
Fellow WWII veteran Hal Miller also made the trip to D.C. and tweeted about his experience. Read their tweets below.
