Despite Washington’s many free attractions, a new report shows that it’s still pretty expensive to visit the city. You hear that, kid who faked his own death to come to D.C.?
According to TripAdvisor’s TripIndex Cities 2013, Washington, D.C. is the seventh most expensive U.S. city for two people to enjoy an overnight stay and evening out in.
The rankings are based on “combined costs for two for a one night stay in a four-star hotel, cocktails [ed note: specifically, two dry martinis], a two-course dinner paired with a bottle of wine and round-trip taxi transportation (two miles each way).” TripAdvisor estimates these costs as $324.41, $17.72, $74 and $30, respectively.
Not factored in to the total cost is the obligatory Segway tour and the zebra-striped sweatshirts one must purchase.
TripIndex Cities 2013 ranked Honolulu, New York City, Boston, San Francisco and Chicago as the top five most expensive cities for two people to visit. The cheapest? Las Vegas, as long as you don’t take your bad luck into a casino.
