Because we haven’t figured out how to unsubscribe from LivingSocial’s daily pallet of emails, we usually relegate them to a junk email account, never to be opened. But once in a while, it’s good to check up on what the D.C.-based daily deals and lifestyle company is selling, if just to make sure there’s still a pulse over there.

But there’s one package LivingSocial is currently selling in its home market that is very awkwardly timed, given recent revelations. Among the current offers LivingSocial is extending to its D.C. customers is admission to MetroCooking DC, a food exhibition scheduled for Nov. 2 and 3 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.

Discounted basic admission for the weekend-long show runs $15, but LivingSocial is all about the experiential packages. And the deals on sale for $59 and $89 include far more than entry into the building. For that much, you’ll get a ticket to a live cooking demonstration featuring a very famous Food Network personality.

That’s right. LivingSocial is currently promoting a “Cooking & Entertaining Show with Paula Deen!” which is still being promoted by the company days after the publication of the transcript of a deposition Deen gave in a lawsuit accusing her of harassment and assault.

During the May 17 deposition, Deen reportedly said “Yes, of course,” in response to a question about whether she throws around racial slurs. She also described a wedding party in fairly antebellum terms:

The whole entire waiter staff was middle-aged black men, and they had on beautiful white jackets with a black bow tie.

I mean, it was really impressive. That restaurant represented a certain era in America…after the Civil War, during the Civil War, before the Civil War…It was not only black men, it was black women…I would say they were slaves.

To be fair, Deen is by far the biggest star listed in the personalities scheduled to present at MetroCooking DC. And a publicist for the food show tells DCist that Deen, despite the current imbroglio, is still on to show off her artery-thickening techniques at the show.
