Barring any unforeseen insanity, the Supreme Court will finally announce its decision in the cases regarding the Defense of Marriage Act and California’s Proposition 8 tomorrow. Should DOMA be overturned, the federal government will have to recognize the legality of same-sex marriages. If the court upholds Proposition 8, then gay Californians will continue living without the right to marry. Its defeat could mean a number of things.

Regardless of the outcome, the Washington National Cathedral will hold a prayer service tomorrow at 7 p.m. for the city’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community and allies “whether they are celebrating [or] grieving.”

“Dean Gary Hall and the Cathedral have resolved to continue their advocacy until all God’s children enjoy equal citizenship,” a statementtfrom the cathedral says. “Coming together as brothers and sisters, friends, and allies, supporters of equal rights can draw strength from one another, be reminded of God’s abiding love, and work through complex feelings about an issue of personal importance at the center of this national debate.”

The Washington National Cathedral, which was constructed in the early 1900s, began hosting same-sex marriages earlier this year.

The Supreme Court’s decision will be announced around 10 a.m. Wednesday
