The numbers are in and they confirm what every soggy D.C. resident already knows: As the Capital Weather Gang reported, this June was the fourth wettest on record.

Just under ten inches of rain fell at National Airport last month, the CWG reported. Yes, even with the lack of derecho this year, this June was rainier than last.

The wettest D.C. Junes since record keeping began occurred in 2006, 1972 and 1900, respectively.

While those of us who enjoy staying dry may be lamenting the recent weather, it’s certainly an improvement over last year. January 2012, July 2012 and the five months in between all saw below average rainfall amounts in D.C. As CWG reported, this was the first seven-month dry spell of its kind in at least 140 years. This led to moderate drought conditions in the area. As of right now, there’s no drought to be seen.

As anyone with a window can tell you, it’s been raining again this week. Happily (or not for those of you who hate barbecues and fireworks), forecasters are predicting a mostly dry Fourth of July.
