LIGHTING: Look to the D.C. skyline tonight for the lighting of the now scaffolded Washington Monument. NPS Director Jonathan Jarvis will offer remarks at a ceremony at the base of the monument at 7:45 p.m. and the lights will go on at sundown.
FILM: The Washington, D.C. Jewish Community Center (1529 Q Street NW) is screening a Woody Allen double feature tonight, tomorrow, and Wednesday. Come see Annie Hall, a four-Oscar winner and a “neurotic discourse on love, sex and the director himself,” at 6:45 p.m. followed by Purple Rose of Cairo, a film set in the Great Depression that “explores the thin line between fantasy and reality while acknowledging the power of film to act as an escape from daily life” at 8:45 p.m. Tickets: $11.

THURSDAY: Capital Fringe Festival is back for its 8th year, bringing “independent theater, live music and un-classifiable performances” to D.C. starting Thursday through July 28. Check out the full schedule and pick up a Fringe Button (required to attend all performances) for $5 until July 11.
FRIDAY: Union Market’s (1309 5th Street NE) new drive-in movie experience (complete with car hops on rollerskates) kicks off this Friday with Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb projected on their 3-story wall. Cyclists and walkers welcome, and a picnic area is set up for people to bring blankets and chairs. Drive-in events (music and contests) start at 7 p.m., parking lot opens at 8 p.m., and the movie starts at 9 p.m. Free.
SATURDAY: Celebrate Bastille Day this Saturday through “dance performances by The New York Baroque Dance Company, live music, French games, and hands-on art projects” at the French Festival at Hillwood Estate Museum and Gardens (4155 Linnean Avenue NW). 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. $5-$18.
