Today is the start of the D.C. free concert series Fort Reno, and kicking off the impressive schedule is one of the best bands in the area. The Evens, formed in 2001 by Ian MacKaye (Fugazi, Minor Threat) and Amy Farina (The Warmers), the band has released three full-lengths including last year’s The Odds. Coming six years after their last album, The Odds is a friendly reminder that the band have not left fans high and dry. Their sound hasn’t changed much, as the band is still guitars, drums and interlocked vocals that veer political. “Wanted Criminals” is a critique of the prison system capturing some of the fury of MacKaye’s past work but less tightly wound.

The Evens play tonight at Fort Reno at 7:15. As always, it is free.
