BIRTHDAY: Happy 11th birthday to Poste (555 8th Street NW)! Help the restaurant celebrate with complimentary birthday cake this evening, and a prix fixe menu, priced at $65, this week. The menu includes a shrimp and roe salad (butter poached shrimp with champagne soaked salmon roe, trout roe and tobiko, served in a tart shell with a cucumber gelée and champagne tomato froth), tomato first course (local and garden heirloom tomatoes, roasted tomato gel, micro basil, tomato hearts, tomato and mozzarella in a tomato/basil gelée), beef bourguignon, and birthday cake (vanilla chiffon with chocolate-raspberry butter cream filling and chocolate ganache) for dessert. Wine pairings are available for an extra $50.

FOOD & DRINK: Oyamel’s (401 7th Street NW) annual Squash Blossom Festival kicked off last Friday and continues through July 28th. Squash blossom specials include cold corn soup (with Good Fortune Farm tomatoes and squash blossoms), squash blossom quesadilla (served with salsa verde cruda con aguacate), squash blossom tamale (with fresh corn and chicharrones), and squash blossom Veracruzana (stuffed with Westfield Farm Goat Cheese and plancha seared with Veracruz sauce). Prices range from $7 to $13 for each dish. 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.

MOVIE: The Jimmy Steward film retrospective at The National Theatre (1321 Pennsylvania Avenue NW) continues tonight with Alfred Hitchcock’s Rope. 6:30 p.m. Free.

Sara Armour and Adam Friedland host the event, and three Story League Superfans will act as judges and pick the best story of the evening (winning the storyteller $100). Line forms at 8:30 p.m., doors open at 8:45 p.m., the storytelling takes place from 9 p.m. Tickets: $10.

THURSDAY: Six speakers from the Smithsonian and the National Insitute of Health discuss Genome: Unlocking Life’s Code at the thirst. event at U Street Music Hall (1115 U Street NW) this Thursday. 5:30 p.m. $20 in advance, $25 at the door.

FRIDAY: Loretta Lynn plays the 9:30 Club (815 V Street NW) with opener Sarah Haze this Friday. 8 p.m. $55.

SATURDAY: The National Museum of the American Indian’s (Fourth Street and Independence Avenue SW) Living Earth Festival kicks off Friday morning and continues through this Sunday. Attend Saturday for a farmer’s market, goat cheese-making workshop, Hawaiian music and dance, a sculpting workshop, an Indian Summer Showcase Concert, and more.
