Get ready for yet another wonderful day under the heat dome. Once again, temperatures in the D.C. area are set to soar into the high 90s today, with humidity raising the heat index to 105 degrees.
And don’t expect nature to offer any momentary relief. As the Capital Weather Gang projects, today’s heat and humidity will be “immovable” thanks to the near-complete absence of even the slightest bit of wind.
The National Weather Service has issued another heat advisory through 7 p.m. tonight, and the District’s heat emergency plan is still in effect. Keep drinking water on Metro, stay in air-conditioned places, and help those who may need assistance in keeping cool.
Once again, the District has four cooling centers available to the public, located at:
- One Judiciary Square 441 Fourth Street NW
- Frank D. Reeves Center (Lobby), 2000 14th Street NW
- King Office Building (Lobby), 3720 Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue SE
- Virginia Williams Family Resource Center 33 N Street NE
And if you know of anyone in need of immediate transport to one of these facilities, arrange a ride by calling (202) 399-7093. Additionally, the Department of Human Services will open eight homeless facilities during the heat emergency. The locations can be found in the Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency’s heat emergency guide.
