The Metropolitan Police Department identified the victim of a homicide victim who was discovered early Friday morning in a Columbia Heights apartment that was found to be damaged by fire.
Randolph Scott Harris Jr., 31, was found about 6:18 a.m. in an apartment on the 1000 block of Euclid Street NW by firefighters and emergency medical personnel responding to a complaint of smoke coming from the residence. Upon entering the apartment, authorities found Harris suffering from burns and apparent gunshot wounds. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said. The D.C. medical examiner is conducting an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Harris owned a silver, four-door Mercedes-Benz sport-utility vehicle from the 2006 model year. The car, which has Maryland tags 7AL7802, was not found in the vicinity of the apartment where Harris was found.
Anyone who has information what transpired at the apartment or the location of the Mercedes is asked to call MPD at (202) 727-9099. The department is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to a homicide conviction.
