Starting at noon, the popular D.C. food truck chain Curbside Cupcakes will park its vehicles at Metro Center and at First and D streets NE to distribute free cupcakes. Sounds awesome, right?
The giveaway, which lasts until 2 p.m., is sponsored by the Ford Motor Company to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Henry Ford. The specially decorated cupcakes feature a Ford emblem. And, according to a press release, in addition to free dessert, the sesquicentennial promotion will also include “Twitter trivia” about Ford’s business legacy.
And while it’s easy to point to the Model A, the Model T, the assembly line and other achievements in the fields of automotive engineering and heavy manufacturing, Henry Ford’s career included such events as:
- Publishing a 91-week series in his Dearborn Independent newspaper about something he called the “Jewish Menace”
- Repackaging the aforementioned columns into a four-booklet series called The International Jew
- Receiving the Grand Cross of the German Eagle, the highest honor the Nazi regime bestowed on foreign diplomats
- Building tanks and trucks for Germany after the outbreak of World War II in Europe
- Building tanks and trucks for Germany using slave labor from French prisoners of war
Enjoy those cupcakes!
