Here’s a friendly Friday reminder: Don’t bring marijuana into the U.S. Capitol Building. You will be arrested.

That’s what happened to a 20-year-old tourist yesterday when U.S. Capitol Police found a pipe “consistent with the use of marijuana” in her bag. According to a statement, a “green leafy substance” was also found in Bethany Joy Adams’s bag during a search at the House Gallery. The substance was later tested and revealed to be marijuana, according to U.S. Capitol Police.

Adams was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana, a public information officer for the Capitol Police told DCist. Currently, that crime carries a maximum penalty of 180 days in prison and a $1,000 fine for first time offenders.

The D.C. Council will consider a bill from Tommy Wells (D-Ward 6) next session to decriminalize marijuana. Possession of under an ounce of the illegal substance would be punishable by a $100 fine.
