Hot dogs and liquor lockers are coming to Shaw: The gentlemen behind Kangaroo Boxing Club are planning to open neighborhood bar Ivy and Coney at 1537 7th Street NW this fall.
A press release explains the concept:
Ivy and Coney is built on a foundation of simplicity: sometimes a good hot dog, a cold beer, and a game on is all you’re looking for in your night. The menu includes Chicago-style and Detroit Coney-style hot dogs, Chicago Italian beefs, peanuts, and cracker jacks. The beers will include Strohs, Old Style, Goose Island 312, and Bell’s Two Hearted along with a quality selection of spirits and sodas. All of these can be enjoyed while sports (with an emphasis on Chicago, Detroit, and D.C. teams) play across several TVs throughout the bar.
Ivy and Coney will also offer liquor lockers, which allows drinkers to buy liquor at a discounted rate, store it in a locker for a fee then drink it at the bar.
The team is also looking to raise $8,000 on Indiegogo, but not because, as they explain, they need it to open. No, this money will go to special extras “like custom-built bar stools, HD TVs, a painted image of the Detroit and Chicago skylines to the edge of our bar, heck – if you help us knock this goal out of the park, we’ll add a ROOF DECK to the bar!!” Who doesn’t have a few extra bucks to spare for painted skylines and a roof deck?
