A few weeks back, DCist reported that that the Black Cat—the legendary 14th Street NW rock venue and bar—was seeking to expand its property with the addition of a third floor and an additional bar.

According to an application published by the Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration, the venue had planned to add a 1,500-square foot bar and third floor “for extra dressing room and storage space.” But after this news broke, the Black Cat tweeted out that they had no immediate plans to expand:

At the time, owner Dante Ferrando was out of town and did not return our requests for comment.

So, what exactly is going on with the proposed third floor an additional bar? Well, nothing.

A source told DCist that Ferrando has no plans to expand the Black Cat in the near future—third floor, additional bar, or otherwise. The application that ABRA published was merely Dante’s way of taking care of all the requisite paperwork ahead of time in the event that he does decide to expand the club at some point in the future. Ferrando has not returned our request for comment.

Rest assured, unlike most of the places on 14th Street, the Black Cat isn’t going to undergo any sort of makeover or expansion anytime soon. Just the way we like it.
