>> Chaise Lounge performs a style of sophisticated yet easy going jazz that was epitomized by releases on Capitol Records in the early ’60s, and which was commonly heard in coffee shops on every college campus before social upheaval changed things. The band will be performing at The Hamilton on Thursday, celebrating the release of its new album, Dot Dot Dot. 7:30 p.m. Tickets $27.50.

>> The Carlyle Club‘s “Date Night” series continues this Thursday with a performance from talented vocalist Lena Seikaly. Seikaly’s most recent album, Looking Back, re-visits classic material from the 1920s and ’30s. 7:30 p.m. Tickets $15 plus food and drink minimum.

>> Buenos Aires, Argentina-born guitarist Cristian Perez brings together European classical, tango, jazz and other global forms in his music. His quartet will be performing on Thursday at Twins Jazz. 8 and 10 p.m. sets. Tickets $10 plus $10 food and drink minimum.

>> Vocalist Freddy Cole had long been in the shadow of his brother, the great Nat “King” Cole. Over the past 20 years, he has emerged as a world class artist in his own right with a sound that is darker and not quite as polished as that of his iconic sibling. He’s still going strong at 80-plus years old, and will begin a four night stand of 8 and 10 p.m. sets on Thursday at Blues Alley. Tickets $25 plus $12.50 minimum/surcharge.

>> Bassist and bandleader Matt Grason leads his band, House of Soul, on Thursday at Tropicalia. The band, centered around vocalist Rochelle Rice, blends the dance grooves of soul-house with the live instrumentation and improvisational elements of jazz. JC Brooks and the Uptown Sound opens. 9 p.m. Tickets $10.

>> Veteran area saxophonist Paul Carr will lead a group of local all-stars on Friday at Jazz Night in Southwest. The band will pay tribute to the great Wayne Shorter. 6 to 9 p.m. Tickets $5.

>> Veteran area blues man Linwood Taylor takes the stage at the Bethesda Blues & Jazz Supper Club on Friday. 8 p.m. Tickets $15 plus food and drink minimum.

>> Bassist Romeir Mendez will lead a group that includes pianist Allyn Johnson and saxophonist Lyle Link on Friday at Bohemian Caverns. 8:30 and 10:30 p.m. sets. Tickets $15 online/$20 at the door.

>> The New Vintage Fest takes place at the Fairgrounds (1299 Half Street SE) and brings together some of the best names in the District’s improvised music scene. >> The PitchBlak Brass Band is a Brooklyn-based 10-piece band that takes the instrumentation of a traditional brass band, but then uses it to explore the hip-hop foundations of the Big Apple. The group will perform at the Millennium Stage on Saturday. 6 p.m. Free.

>> The dog days of August always brings a slow down to the local jazz calendar, but one highlight during this time of year is dynamic area vocalist Akua Allrich‘s annual tribute to Nina Simone and Miriam Makeba. Now in its 5th iteration, this year’s shows will take place on Saturday (8:30 and 10:30 p.m. sets) and Sunday (7 and 9 p.m. sets) at Bohemian Caverns. Tickets $20 online/$25 at the door.
