Shark Week may be a few weeks behind us, but that’s not stopping sharks from making local headlines.
Southern Maryland News reports that a man— waterman John “Willy” Dean—fishing with his son and a friend found two male bull sharks caught in nets off of Cornfield Harbor— a point on the lower Potomac River near St. Mary’s County.
The 8-foot, 220-pound bull sharks were apparently caught in a fishing net a mere 200 yards from where people normally swim, which is an absolute terrifying thing to think about. What’s more is that this isn’t the first time Dean has caught a bull shark in that same area. Nearly three years ago, Dean snagged an 8-foot, 300-pound bull shark in Cornfield Harbor, on the same day that another man caught a bull shark further up in the Potomac River.
“So much for skinny dipping. If the snakeheads don’t get you, the sharks will,” Dean joked to Southern Maryland News. Ha ha ha, Willy. You’re laughing, but we’re trembling in fear, never going in the water again.
