The Smithsonian is asking you – yes, you! – to become a part of America’s Family Album, a photo project that has a financial benefit for the museum network.

Through September 2, the Smithsonian is asking anyone who’s visited one of their museums or the National Zoo to upload a photo or photos to the online album. For every photo uploaded, the Ford Motor Company Fund will donate $5 to the Smithsonian up to $50,000. According to Yoon Lee, director of digital media philanthropy, the Smithsonian is halfway to its goal of 10,000 photos.

“The Smithsonian is an integral part of D.C., and we’d like to think that just about everyone living in D.C. has taken at least one picture here,” Dixie Clough of the Office of Advancement said in an email.

Photos uploaded thus far range from recent shots at the Hirshhorn to 80s kids at the National Museum of American History to black-and-white photos from the turn of the century.

Some photos will be chosen by Smithsonian photography curators for a 2014 on-site exhibit. “Participants whose photos are selected by the panel will be entered to win a trip for two in March 2014 sponsored by Smithsonian Journeys—a 10-day sail around the Florida peninsula that includes an Everglades adventure,” according to a press release.
