L.A. synth-pop duo Soft Metals take a high-minded approach to their music. The band has shades of pop, but usually stay in the darker corners and sometimes can be downright gothy. Patricia Hall’s ghostly vocals are never showy, but at times, especially on the chorus of “Tell Me,” they can be impressive. “Tell Me” sounds like both a lo-fi Ladytron track and Glass Candy in all black. The synths pulse and lock into a repetitive beat, leaving only Hall’s voice to fill in the gaps.

Soft Metals play with Pleasure Curses and Motion Lines tomorrow night at Comet Ping Pong. Tickets are $10.
