Now that you’ve seen the National Zoo’s adorable Sumatran tiger cubs in all their glory, would you like the chance to spend a lot of money and name one of the cute balls of fur? Here’s your chance.

An auction on the website Charity Buzz has been created for the chance at naming either the male or female cub. A spokeswoman for the Zoo confirms that the auction, which benefits the Friends of the National Zoo, is legit.

The winning bidder won’t just get the right to name a tiger cub. The auction also comes with “media recognition at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo through printed and online communications, and a behind-the-scenes tour for you and a small group of five to meet your cub with a professional photographer to capture your day.”

At the time this post was published, the highest bid was $10,500, with the reserve not yet met. The auction’s estimated value is $50,000.

Of course, there’s some fine print, some of which is rather depressing: “Because these are live animals and not inanimate objects, we unfortunately cannot guarantee their survival – even with the world-class care that we provide for them. In the regrettable event that an animal were to die, all donations are non-refundable.”

There’s also this: “Name must be approved by the zoo.” Hopefully this means that Nala and Simba are off limits.
