Comprised of members of Poor But Sexy, Railsplitter, and The Dismemberment Plan, The Burlies are basically a D.C. supergroup, except that they don’t live in D.C. anymore, they all moved to Brooklyn. Still, that doesn’t mean we can’t give them some local love given their ties to the city (plus, they’re playing a show at the Velvet Lounge on Saturday).
The driving, hook-heavy track is certainly a departure from jittery prog-pop of lead singer/guitarist Travis Morrison’s other band,The Dismemberment Plan. The song has a kind of industrial post-punk vibe, and that’s only amplified by the video, which features archival black-and-white footage of industrial machinery, trains, and other non-sequiturs spliced together with the lyrics titled over in German.
The track is the first single of their American Hairlines EP, which is dropping soon.
