A D.C. firefighter has set up a college savings fund for the children of a deceased colleague whose home was broken into yesterday during his funeral.

Sound too horrible to believe? Take it away, WJLA.

Firefighter Terrence Boston died last week in a motorcycle accident. Now his family is not only coming to grips with his death, but they’re also dealing with the fact that someone broke into their home during Boston’s funeral and stole from them.

Boston, a 12-year veteran, died Aug. 26 from injuries in a motorcycle accident and was remembered by family, friends and colleagues Wednesday. When the family returned from the funeral around 4 p.m., a kitchen window was open. Their televisions, electronics, jewelry and other items of value were missing.

Off-camera, Angela Boston, a mother of three small boys ages 7, 5 and 9 months, says the house was ransacked with stuff thrown about. She’s a firefighter for the Fairfax Fire Department. She believes they were targeted.

Fellow firefighter Thomas Riddick has set up a Give Forward campaign for Boston’s three youngest children. “He was a dedicated and self sacrificing member of our department,” the description says. “As firemen it is our duty to take care of our own, so it is our hope to setup college savings accounts for his three younger children.”

So far $3,275 of the $10,000 goal has been raised.
