Erik Bruner-Yang, owner and chef of Toki Underground and Maketto, has pleaded guilty to simple assault charges stemming from an attack on his ex-girlfriend’s fiancé back in June, as Young & Hungry first reported.
On June 26, Bruner-Yang and his wife, Seda Nak, allegedly showed up at the home of his ex-girlfriend in the early hours of the morning, invaded the home, and allegedly assaulted both her and her fiancé following a heated argument.
The charging document filed against Bruner-Yang and Nak states that when they arrived at the victims’ house, Nak yelled out “What do you want to say now? What do you want to do now?” The fiancé told police that Bruner-Yang and Nak allegedly also started screaming threats toward the house.
According to D.C. Superior Court records, Bruner-Yang pleaded guilty to simple assault and unlawful entry on August 8 and signed a deferred-sentencing agreement. As Young & Hungry reports, in Bruner-Yang’s guilty plea, he agreed to enroll in “alcohol/drug treatment and anger management as well as perform 20 hours of community service.” Nak also pleaded guilty to simple assault and unlawful entry under the same conditions as her husband.
Young & Hungry also reports that “Bruner-Yang’s ex-girlfriend believed Bruner-Yang and his wife came the house over a Facebook post that she made in reference to their wedding,” making this whole thing seem like a dispute best worked out on Jerry Springer than in a U.S. Courthouse.
