The Advisory Neighborhood Commission that serves Logan Circle and several other Northwest D.C. areas will host a rat summit next month to address issues with the rodents on the 1300 block of 14th Street, which is home to several restaurants. Insert a joke here about D.C. and rats.
Short Articles about Long Meetings, a blog that covers ANC meetings and therefore does God’s work, first reported news of the summit, which will take place on October 17 at the Washington Plaza Hotel.
Commissioner John Fanning (district 04) said that the rat problem on this block deserved special attention. He hoped to get restaurant owners on the block “in the same room” with the relevant parts of the DC government, including the Department of Public Works, the sanitation department, the District Department of the Environment, DC Water, and the Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration, among others. ANC2F is working on coordinating with these agencies.
DCist received an email tip late last month about the problem, which was documented on the site SeeClickFix.com:
My building started having serious rat problems after Le Diplomate opened this Summer. Walking by the restaurant you can see a large number of rats all around their outdoors patio.
DC311 acknowledged the issue, as did user Marlon Brando who quipped, “That was just the GOP House there for lunch. They’ve gone now.”
SLAM reports that a representative from restaurant B Too will attend. Other eateries on or near that block include The Pig, Estadio, Etto, Teak Wood and ChurchKey.
