After almost giving everyone a collective “Are they not going to cancel the game!?” heart attack on Monday, the Washington Nationals have taken steps to assist their neighbors at the Navy Yard following Monday’s shooting.
The team is auctioning off autographed Patriotic Blue jerseys worn by players during Game 1 of Tuesday’s doubleheader against the Braves. The money will benefit the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS), which set up a fund to assist families affected by the shooting.
So far, Bryce’s Harper’s jersey is going for $2,400 while Ryan Zimmerman’s stands at $850. The auctions are scheduled to end on September 26 at 7:59 p.m.
The Nationals are also offering free tickets to Navy Yard personnel and their families for Saturday’s game, the Associated Press reports.
The Nationals are offering up to four complimentary tickets to Navy Yard personnel with a valid ID. The tickets must be picked up in advance Friday at the Nationals’ box office from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Tickets will be available while supplies last. The team is playing the Miami Marlins on Saturday.
Following Monday’s shooting, which left 13 people, including the shooter, dead, the parking lot at Nationals Park was used as a reunification spot for Navy Yard employees and their families.
