At tomorrow’s Council meeting, the big thing on the agenda may be the vote on emergency legislation in response to the impending government shutdown, but they’ll also be voting on an official resolution regarding the Navy Yard shootings.
The resolution is brief and to the point, but basically, the D.C. Council resolves to “proclaim our solidarity as residents of the District of Columbia: honoring the victims of the September 16, 2013 Navy Yard tragedy, supporting those attempting to come to terms with the tragedy and to heal, and standing strong as the Nation’s Capital in defiance of such unconscionable and cowardly acts of violence that has befallen our jurisdiction,” as well as “pledge continuing support” for emergency responders in D.C.
