The Dodos have always found solemnity in the darkness. The duo’s sound hasn’t changed very much since their formation in 2005, but with their latest record, Carrier, the band find new ways of making their signature sound. While the band was touring their 2011 release No Color, ex-Women guitarist Christopher Reimer joined the band. Reimer, known for his sinewy guitar lines, tragically passed away in February 2012. The death had a major effect on The Dodos, and Carrier is the band’s tribute to Reimer. Singer guitarist Meric Long’s playing is heavily inspired by Reimer’s and it can be heard within the middle section of the single “Confidence.” The track has the touchtones of classic Dodos, with the soft start, but when the track kicks in the wonderful drumming of Logan Kroeber shines comes through.

The Dodos play tonight with Dustin Wong at the Black Cat. Tickets are $15.
