Police have made an arrest in the July slaying of a Howard University student.

The Metropolitan Police Department announced today that 26-year-old Rasdavid Lagarde of Northeast D.C. was arrested this morning in the killing of 22-year-old Omar Sykes. Lagarde was charged with first degree felony murder while armed.

Sykes, a junior marketing major, was found in the 700 block of Fairmont Street NW on July 4 suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He died at a local hospital. Police previously said they believed Sykes was killed in a “random encounter.”
