BALLET: Join the Washington Ballet for Beer, Ballet, and Bubbly, an opportunity to watch a rehearsal of an upcoming production in the intimate England Studio Theater (3515 Wisconsin Avenue NW), then have a drink (beer, bubbly, or both) with dancers and fellow ballet supporters. 6:30 p.m. Tickets: $30 (includes admission and drinks).

STORYTELLING: You may want to sleep with the lights on tonight after Story League’s Nightmare themed storytelling contest at Busboys and Poets (2021 14th Street NW). The best story wins $100, and you get to go home with the chills. Our own Matt Cohen will be a judge. 9 p.m. Tickets: $10.

FOOD & DRINK: Tortilla Coast (400 First Street SE), where democracy happens, has been celebrating the Texas State Fair with a series of events and special menu items like Frito pie, chicken fried steak, and fried catfish. This evening come out for Texas Night, where wearing some Texas flair (“big hair, belt buckle, boots, Hook ’em Horns, favorite Texas team jersey, etc.”) will get your $4 Shiners. 5:00 p.m.-close.

TALK: Tech Cocktail brings in entrepreneurs to share their stories and for advice to those looking to start their own businesses. Tonight, attend a Tech Cocktail Session at 1776 (1133 15th Street NW) and hear from Tim O’Shaughnessy, CEO and co-founder of LivingSocial. 6:30-9:00 p.m. $20-$35.
