Columbia Heights Coffee on 11th Street NW has closed, a move that seemed inevitable after 24-hour diner The Coupe moved in across the street.
The news was first reported by 11th Street DC then by PoPville. A message left for an owner or manager at Columbia Heights Coffee has yet to be returned, but a visit to the shop confirms that it is indeed closed.
According to n12development, Columbia Heights Coffee opened in the spring of 2003, long before many of the bars and restaurants that have now made that strip “hip” moved in. Denizens of Columbia Heights may fondly remember the shop’s friendly owners, Nadew and Tsege Delnesaw, the decent coffee, the kind service, the lost unicorn posters or the ice cream.
