Earlier this summer, Union Market, D.C.’s gourmet food destination in Northeast, started expanding beyond selling artisanal foods and crafts with their wildly popular drive-in movie series (which was expanded through the fall). Now, Union Market will host concerts. Well, at least one concert. On November 30, D.C. ex-pats The Walkmen will headline a show there.

According to a press release, The Walkmen will perform as part of Union Market’s new curated retail salon, Thread. The release states that Thread “will bring together local independent retailers and national brands, and will feature a variety of participants in the fashion, beauty, lifestyle, art and home arenas. In addition to showcases by premier retailers and exclusive products, Thread will feature installations and art for sale.”

The show part will take place in the alley of Dock 5 and will also feature scuzzy garage rockers Sunwolf as well as a DJ set by U Street Music Hall owner Will Eastman. Tickets are being sold for $25, but you can also buy VIP tickets for the not-so-cheap price of $125, which get you access to a private area with artisanal snacks by Rappahannock Oysters Co. and cocktails from Green Hat Distillery and Union Market’s Buffalo & Bergen.

So, are regular concerts a thing you can now expect at Union Market? Not really. A Union Market spokesperson tells DCist that this is just a one-off concert as part of the launch of Thread.
