>> Saxophonist Brian Settles‘ career is emblematic of the resurgence D.C.’s jazz scene has experienced over the past 15 years. A native of the District, his studies took him to New York before he returned to Howard to complete his Master’s degree. He still splits time between here and the Big Apple and will be performing at the Atlas tonight with his band, Central Union, to celebrate the group’s latest release. 8 p.m. Tickets $20 to $33.50.

>> The Mancuso-Suzda Project is an avant-garde duo comprised of percussionist Simone Mancuso and saxophonist Jeff Suzda. The former Artists-in-Residence at Strathmore will return to the venue this evening for a 7:30 p.m. show. Tickets $13.50 to $17.

>> A native of D.C., pianist Lenny Marcus cut his teeth in New Orleans, studying with some of the Crescent City’s finest. He has released over 20 albums to date and has performed with an impressive list of notables. Marcus will bring his own group to Blues Alley tonight for 8 and 10 p.m. sets. >> Trombonist Shannon Gunn leads the area’s only all female big band, The Bullettes, tonight at the Bethesda Blues & Jazz Supper Club for an evening of dining and dancing. 8 p.m. Tickets $10 plus food and drink minimum.

>> Philly based vibraphonist Tony Miceli brings his quartet to Twins Jazz tonight to pay tribute to Thelonious Monk. 8 and 10 p.m. sets. Tickets $10 plus food and drink minimum.

>> Angela Stribling is perhaps best know for the years she spent hosting a number of programs on BET. She is also an accomplished jazz vocalist and will be performing on Thursday at Blues Alley. 8 and 10 p.m. sets. Tickets $25 plus minimum and surcharge.

>> The Latin Grammy winning Afro Bop Alliance, based out of Annapolis, will bring its infectious grooves to Twins Jazz on Thursday for 8 and 10 p.m. sets. Tickets $12 plus food and drink minimum.

>> Madeleine Peyroux‘s restrained delivery often draws comparisons to Billy Holiday, however she also brings in other traditional roots influences that create a hybrid between jazz and Americana. Peyroux will bring her band to The Birchmere on Thursday for a 7:30 p.m. show. Tickets $55.

>> The Bethesda Blues & Jazz Supper Club presents an eclectic evening of music on Thursday. Elikeh combines Togolese sounds with American funk, pop and R&B influences. >> Smooth jazz star, Najee, performs 8 and 10 p.m. sets at Blues Alley from Friday through Sunday. Tickets $55 plus minimum and surcharge.

>> The Atlas is hosting an incredible performance series on Friday and Saturday. 2012 Pulitzer nominee Wadada Leo Smith is presenting his Ten Freedom Summers suite in its entirety. The performance will extend over three shows, one on Friday evening (8 p.m.), and then two performances on Saturday (3 p.m. and 8 p.m.). Ten Freedom Summers draws from the themes of the Civil Rights Movement, and each segment can be enjoyed on its own, or the listener can brave the entire cycle. Ticket information is available here. >> Vocalist Cecile McLorin Salvant won the prestigious Monk Competition in 2010. The Washington Performing Arts Society brings her back to the District on Saturday for a performance at the historic 6th and I Synagogue. 8 p.m. Tickets $25.
