>> Chris Thile, of Punch Brothers fame, is a virtuoso mandolin player who was awarded a 2013 MacArthur “genius” grant. Thile will bring his blend of progressive bluegrass, classical music and jazz to Strathmore this evening. 8 p.m. Tickets $26 to $36.

>> Vocalist Abby Schaffer teams up with the Universal Mind Ensemble for 8 and 10 p.m. sets tonight at Twins Jazz. Tickets $10 plus food and drink minimum.

>> Big band leader Doc Scantlin will bring his jazz orchestra to the Bethesda Blues & Jazz Supper Club on Halloween for the venues first annual Grand Masquerade. This year’s theme is Fritz Lang’s classic 1927 film, Metropolis. 8 p.m. Tickets $35 plus food and drink minimum.

>> Chris Bates is a talented young trombonist based out of Richmond. On Thursday, he will join a number of D.C.’s finest, including pianist Allyn Johnson and bassist Herman Burney, for 8 and 10 p.m. sets at Twins Jazz. Tickets $10 plus food and drink minimum.

>> Bassist Cheyney Thomas leads his group on Friday at Jazz Night in Southwest. 6 to 9 p.m. Tickets $5.

>> Curtis Fuller is one of the great trombonists of all time has been deservedly named an NEA Jazz Master. He is still going strong at 78-years-old, and will be at the Kennedy Center on Friday. Fuller dubbed his newest ensemble The Brasstet because of its all-brass front line that includes Fuller along with trumpeters Don Sickler and Bobby Shew. 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. sets. Tickets $26 to $30.

>> This area has few bass guitarists who play with more virtuosity than Leonardo Lucini. Lucini will be leading a quartet through two evenings of Brazilian jazz on Friday and Saturday at Twins Jazz. 8 and 10 p.m. sets. Tickets $15 plus food and drink minimum.

>> Eddie Palmieri‘s 50-year career has earned him a place among the undisputed masters of Latin jazz. His body of work includes over three dozen albums as a leader, nine Grammy awards and made him one of the definitive voices in New York’s classic Latin scene during the ’50s and ’60s. Palmieri will lead his septet through 8:30 p.m. sets on Friday and Saturday at the Bethesda Blues & Jazz Supper Club. Tickets $45 plus food and drink minimum.

>> HR-57 hosts saxophonists Antonio Parker (Friday) and Grant Langford (Saturday). 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. $15.

>> Dorado Schmitt is among the great purveyors of the gypsy jazz style that was made famous by the legendary guitarist, Django Reinhardt. Schmitt will lead a band on Saturday at the Kennedy Center that includes celebrated vibraphonist, Stefon Harris. 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. sets. Tickets $38. The band will also lead a free jam session the following day at 11 a.m.

>> Vocalist Jil Aigrot was cast as the voice of the iconic chanteuse, Edith Piaf, for the film, La Vie En Rose. She will at Lisner Auditorium on Sunday to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Piaf’s death. 7 p.m. Tickets $20 to $35.

>> The highly skilled bassist Avon Lucas leads a group on Sunday at the Bethesda Blues & Jazz Supper Club. 7:30 p.m. Tickets $20 plus food and drink minimum.

>> Keyboardist Robert Glasper is at the vanguard of the nu-jazz movement, which draws from all strains of African American music as well as more contemporary electronic sounds. His band, the Robert Glasper Experiment, is one of the best groups working today and will be performing a 7:30 p.m. show on Sunday at The Birchmere. Tickets $49.50.

>> Vocalist Irene Jalenti has been performing regularly throughout the Baltimore/D.C. area since moving here from her native Italy. She will lead a group at Twins Jazz on Sunday. 8 and 10 p.m. sets. Tickets $10 plus food and drink minimum.

>> Blue Monday Blues hosts David Cole & Main Street Blues. 6 to 9 p.m. $5.

>> On Monday, Blues Alley kicks off a week-long Brazilian jazz series. Monday and Tuesday features bassist Nilson Matta, who will be playing with saxophonist Roni Ben-Hur on the first night and his group, Black Orpheus on the second. The latter will feature local vocalist Emy Tseng as a special guest. 8 and 10 p.m. sets. Tickets $25 plus minimum and surcharge.
