An off-duty firefighter was shot during an attempted robbery in Southeast D.C. on Saturday.

According to a Metropolitan Police Department Public Information Officer, a fire department captain, whose name is not being released at this moment, was shot in the 2000 block of Bruce Place SE during an attempted robbery. The shooting took place at about 3 p.m. on Saturday. The captain was with another off-duty firefighter at the time who took him to a nearby fire station where he was then transported to a hospital. As of now, the captain is in serious, but stable condition.

As of now, police say the suspect was “dressed in black clothing,” and no arrests have been made. The PIO could not disclose anymore information as the investigation is ongoing, but two officers on the MPD listserv say that police have leads.
